In Loving Memory of Thomas P. Chavez

Thomas P. Chavez preacefully passed away on Thursday, September 06, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a 10 month battle with cancer. Tom was born in Raton, NM the son of Basilio and Mary Chavez.
Tom was a quiet, kind and loving man who loved his family and loved to be around them. Most of his time was spent sitting on the front porch enjoying the weather. He loved walking around town until his health didn’t allow it. Tom loved for the grandkids to visit so he could take them fishing. He has always loved the Denver Broncos and had the schedule printed and was anxiously waiting for the season to start. Tom loved to eat!! He loved his wife’s cooking, chips and salsa (especially while watching his Broncos), radishes, celery and many other vegetables and “LITTLE DEBBIE COOKIES”.
When he graduated from high school he moved to Denver and attended college for awhile and decided college wasn’t for him. So he then started his job at the “Heart of Denver Hotel” which was known for accommodating politicians, movie stars and other famous guests. While he was there he met Stephanie Powers, Nancy Stafford, Elvis and many others. His favorite movie star he loved to talk about was “Charleton Heston”. He would love to tell everyone how the two of them shared a few drinks while sitting on the top of the billboard. In 1965 his father was building the Village Inn Motel while running Basil’s Bar and needed some help running the businesses and asked Tom to move back and help. So he packed up and moved back. Soon after he moved back met and married the love of his life, Linda. After a couple years of marriage he thought they should make a change in their life. He then started at the Port of Entry and later went on to work at the local coal mine Kaiser Steel as it was named then and stayed for 29 years through all of the company name changes.
