In Loving Memory of Pete Montera

There is a moment on life’s stage, when we come to the last act of those who came before us. Pete Montera, for many of us, is that person. We will miss this man who intended his love.

A native Coloradoan, and avid fisherman, Pete Montera of Trinidad, Colorado passed away on September 3, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones.

Pete was born March 6, 1918 in a coal camp up the Del Agua Canyon; several miles from the site of the 1914 Ludlow Massacre. He is the son of Italian immigrants Gaetano Montera and Maria Mongiat Montera. Pete’s siblings: Frank Montera, Rose Marchiol, John Montero and Edith Stancato preceded him in death.

Pete married Thelma Agnes Bone (d.1996) on June 3, 1939. After marriage he worked in the coal mines for a short time then moved to Trinidad and found work at the Trinidad Creamery (1941-1958). He was hired as an Officer with the Colorado Ports of Entry moving his family to Idaho Springs until retiring in 1982 and returning to their Trinidad home.

Pete & Thelma’s Children: Guy Montera (d.2009) & Sharon Turner Montera; Janet Montera; Peter Montera (d.1971); Jennifer Montera Taylor & Marvin Taylor.

Great Grandchildren: Michael Taylor & Jacqueline Hill Taylor & daughter Ashley Taylor Painter and her husband William Painter. Nicole Ragazzi Torres & Rick Torres & children: Brendon Mastin, Elias Torres, Rick Torres Jr., Sierra Torres & Levi Zamora. Amy Taylor, Christopher & Anne Montera’s children: Zechariah & Victoria, Madeline Montera, & Emma & Ethan. Rachel Montera Larsen & Stephen Larsen & children: Gillian & Zane Larsen.

There are also Pete’s Trinidad nieces and nephews who looked after our Dad for many years: especially Paul & Karen Montera, Karen & Eddie Griego & John Marchiol. We, his family, know his life was enriched by your love and attention. THANK YOU!

And, we thank you Pete Montera: Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle, Cousin and Friend for loving us all so absolutely. There is no better legacy!
