Emmett Carl Scott was born to John and Sylvia Zora Myers Scott on their homestead a few miles north of Roy, New Mexico on August 15,1925. He completed his earthly duties on August 23, 2018 at the age of 93 years and 8 days.
He was the youngest of four boys in his family (Chester, John, Allen and Carl) with 5 years between each brother’s birth.
Carl attended school in Roy, New Mexico until the 18th of April 1944, when he joined the Marine Corp. WWII had just started and Carl felt the calling to help protect the country that he loved.
Carl was trained to be an expert rifleman with special qualifications, serving on a machine gun crew. His military service took him to the Pacific area from September 12,1944 until April 20,1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal on April 18,1944 and was wounded in action while serving in the Pacific on May 29,1945. He was engaged in battles, skirmishes and expeditions in Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands from April 1,1945 until August 15,1945; occupation of China from September 30,1945 to April 5,1946. After being wounded a second time, he was honorably discharged as a Corporal and received two Purple Hearts.
After being discharged from active service, he was receiving monthly pay of $54, and was given a travel allowance to get home. His allowance was five cents per mile from Los Angeles, CA to Mosquero, NM for a total of $184.37. He would mention many times, that he came home with what he felt was a pocket full of money.
After returning from war, he made a living helping with dry land farming until the late 1940’s when he moved to Los Angeles, California and worked in one of the first self-serve gas stations for his father-in-law, Albert Vig.
Carl’s heart always remained in the countryside where he had grown up and he returned to Roy again in the late 1960’s to drive trucks. He worked for Cardox and later SEC corporation until 1984. He then worked for Hartley Construction operating heavy equipment.
Carl loved to spend time with his son, Keith, and together they accomplished many, many projects on the Scott Ranch. His favorite job was keeping track of rainfall. His rain gauges were always in perfect condition and people in the area could depend on him for monthly precipitation totals and trends.
Carl was a very private man, but when you had Carl for a friend, you had a dependable, trustworthy friend for life.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his three older brothers, and his oldest son, Keith Scott.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Scott of Roy; his granddaughter Cindy Orthman and her husband Art (great-grandchildren Katelyn, Austin, Luke and Sean Orthman); grandson Jason Scott (great-grandchildren Hunter and Laney Scott); grandson Curtis and his wife Grace Scott; daughter Sherry Hamilton and her husband Rick; grandson Derek and his wife Erika Hamilton (great-granddaughter Journey); grandson Jorde and his wife Michelle Hamilton (great-grandchildren Skylar, Charly, and Jett); son Larry Scott, grandson Tyler Scott; daughter Terry Lynn Osborn, grandsons Christopher and Nicholas Popescu, granddaughter Holly Osborn (great-grandchildren Taryn and Haven) grandson Allen and grand-daughter Kelly Osborn.
Arrangements and celebration of love for Emmett Carl Scott are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
