Austin Eric Jones, 19 of Raton New Mexico died Tuesday August 14, 2018. Austin was born on April 20th 1998 to Eric and Becky Jones. Austin attended Raton public schools and graduated proudly as a Tiger Alum of Raton High School May 2017. Austin lettered in Basketball and Baseball, He was a scholar with many aspirations to work with Diabetes and Cancer patients. Austin was attending University of New Mexico entering his sophomore year with a focus on nursing.
Austin prided himself on his appearance and his style was at the forefront. He could be considered a sneaker “connoisseur” with his impressive tennis shoe collection. Austin was a chameleon, easily transitioning from cowboy hat and boots to glasses and athletic wear. We never really knew who was going to show up, but each time we were pleasantly surprised with a new look. Austin was an avid member of Sagebrush Community Church, holding his faith above all.
Austin is survived by his parents Eric Jones (Libby Sanchez), Becky Jones (Javier Lucero) Brother Tanner Jones, Lucas Lucero, paternal grandparents Jardy and Lolly Jones of Chama, NM, uncle Derek and wife Susan Jones of Albuquerque, NM, aunt Jolene Jones of Chama, NM, aunt Sharlene and husband Joe Sandoval of Panama City Beach, FL, maternal grandparents OD and Cecil Ortiz of Raton, NM, grandmother Theresa Ortega, uncle Richard and wife Rose Martinez of Rio Rancho, NM, uncle Chris Ortiz and wife Vanessa LeDoux of Pueblo, CO, and aunt Sara Ortiz of Albuquerque, NM as well as many cousins and extended family members.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, August 19th at Raton High School, in Raton, NM from 1pm until 2pm followed by a Funeral Service also held at Raton High School. He will be interred at Vista Verda Memorial Park in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
