Medina Awarded P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

The $2,500 P.E.O. Scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year was presented to recent Raton High School graduate Halle Medina.  She received her prestigious scholarship from Raton P.E.O. Chapter N officers and members at their annual Scholarship Luncheon held on June 16th at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church’s Wetling Hall.

Medina is the daughter of Raton High School alumni Stevie Medina and Melissa L. Goetsch-Medina. P.E.O. Chapter N of Raton, recommended Medina for the STAR Scholarship. She will attend Colorado State University at Pueblo to study Biology in their Pre-Occupational Therapy program beginning this fall.

The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a $2,500.00 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. A student must be recommended by a P.E.O. chapter.

Medina also applied for and received Chapter N’s local scholarship, in honor of the late Jane Erwin Dial in the amount of $750.00.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded January 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is an international philanthropic and educational organization that promotes increased educational opportunities for women. There are nearly 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with almost 250,000 initiated members. The P.E.O. Sisterhood has provided over $304 million in financial assistance to more than 102,000 recipients. The P.E.O. Sisterhood also owns Cottey College, a fully accredited, independent liberal arts and science college for women, with two-year and selected four-year programs located in Nevada, Missouri.
