Albert Verderaime, well loved baker and businessman of Aguilar, passed away June 5, 2018 at the Colorado State Veterans Home in Walsenburg, CO.
He was 98.
He was born in Rouse, Colorado on July 20, 1919, to Giuseppina and Antonio Verderaime . Albert enlisted in the United States Army on October 19, 1940 at Ft. MacArthur
California and served in the Pacific Theatre from 1941 to 1944.
He also attended Bakers and Cooks school in Ft. Lewis Washington.
Albert was honorably discharged on August 13, 1946.
When he returned home, he took over Verderaime Bakery in Aguilar, Colorado. He passionately baked Italian breads, cookies and cakes for the next 67 years.
His baked goods were enjoyed south of Aguilar in Trinidad and north of Aguilar in Walsenburg and LaVeta.
There was no where else he wanted to be. Aguilar was his home,
On July 16, 1951, Albert was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Peccolo at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Aguilar, CO.
His favorite things to do were sitting in the sun in his rocking chair in the front window of the Verderaime Bakery, solving crossword puzzles and playing chess.
He also enjoyed listening the music that he loved from his era and swapping stories with his many friends over a glass of wine or cold beer.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish.
Albert was preceded in death by parents, Tony and Josephine Verderaime, wife Mary Elizabeth Verderaime, sister Roseann Nathe, brother Frank Verderaime and sister Annie Hansen.
Survivors are his sons Anthony (Charlene) Verderaime, Colorado Springs, CO, Chares (Suzy) Verderaime, Pueblo, Colorado, 5 grandsons, Mike (Kacy) Verderaime, Seven (Amanda) Verderaime, Ryan (Nanci) Verderaime, Matthew Verderaime and Vinnie Verderaime, 6 great grandchildren, Sophia , Salvatore, Santino, Enzo, Mario and Josefina Verderaime, other relatives and a host of many dear friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4PM-7PM at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Aguilar, Co, with Rosary at 10AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30AM.
Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers are Anthony Verderaime, Joseph Verderaime, Gene Chavez, Joe Arnone, Mark Piano, Lonnie Elley and Carl Elley.
Active pallbearers are Mike Verderaime, Steven Verderaime, Ryan Verderaime, Matthew Verderaime, Vinnie Verderaime and Mark Nathe.
In lieu of food and flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Church, Aguilar, CO.
