In Loving Memory of Pauline Catherine Ginepra David

It is with great sadness that the family of Pauline Catherine Ginepra David announces her passing of natural causes on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Trinidad at the age of 96 years. Pauline was born on March 4, 1922 in Starkville, Colorado to Giovanni “John” and Giuditta Milanese Ginepra. Her parents were born and raised in the Silvano d’Orba, Alessandria, Piemonte, Italy area, and departed separately by ship from Genoa, Italy to immigrate to the United States. They married and settled on their property in the area formerly known as Greetville, which was later annexed to paulineStarkville. Pauline’s brother, Joe, was born in 1927, while her brother, Peter, was born in 1930. She was a loving and helpful daughter to her parents and brothers. A very intelligent woman, Pauline was fluent in speaking, reading, and writing both Italian and English. She married her beloved husband, Sam David, after he returned from his service in World War II in 1945. Two sons were born to this union, John Samuel in 1948, and Andrew Stephen “Andy” followed in 1951. After surviving the 1955 Starkville Flood, Sam and Pauline built their home on the Ginepra land and also bought a ranch in Aguilar where they raised beef, sold hay, and Sam hunted game. Pauline was an exceptional homemaker, providing most of the family’s meals with produce from her carefully tended garden and fruit trees, meat from livestock and chickens grown on their land, and her skills at canning and preserving foods. A devoted and loving mother, Pauline, was greatly challenged but never lost hope when Andy contracted Polio at a young age. She nurtured and cared for her small sons while seeking the best medical care available at the time for Andy. Pauline was a life-long practicing Catholic. She was known for her kindness, caring, frugality, and practicality by family and friends alike. The words written in Proverbs 31:28 (KJV) describe her best: “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe, and her husband Sam. She will be lovingly missed by her sons John (Patricia) of Gillette, WY, Andy (Teena) of Aguilar, CO, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her brother, Pete Ginepra of Trinidad.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 3p.m. – 6p.m. at Comi Chapel, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Pauline on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Trinidad.

Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
