Its was all smiles and high fives as the Lady Tigers tied the ribbons on the final district game of the 2018 season at Jim Wade Field Monday afternoon shutting out the McCurdy Lady Bobcats 10-0 in five innings and posting their fourth district title in four years going undefeated for this year’s title.
It was all Lady Tigers as Crystal Ortiz struck out Karla Santos to go three up three down in the first inning while Raton went through seven batters and scored three runs for the lead. McCurdy never went more than four batters the rest of the game with Ortiz sending five batters back to the dugout on strikeouts and the Lady Tiger Defense playing smart ball and making the plays to keep base runners at bay. Samantha Armijo was the only McCurdy player to make third base to even threaten a score after she stole both second and third base.
It was an 8-0 game as Raton entered the bottom half of the fifth inning and they tied the ribbons on the game when Andie Ortega sent Anna Acosta and Tasha Ortega on around the bases for the 10-0 win.
The Lady Tigers took the district title going undefeated in district play and ending their season 19-6 overall. The Lady Tigers will now look to the state tourney which will begin on Wednesday May 9th in Rio Rancho. Seedings and brackets will come out after May 6th.
