Finally a warm afternoon for Lady Tiger softball as Raton hosted the Taos Lady Tigers Monday at Jim Wade Field in Raton. It was one of the few games the Lady Tigers have had so far this season at home.
The ladies started off game one with Taos going three and out followed by Raton putting runners on base but only to finish the inning scoreless. Taos managed one run in the second while Raton started off hot sending five ladies around the bases for a 5-1 lead at the end of two. Raton would go on to score two in the third and fourth innings while Taos scored two in the fourth and fifth innings. Raton topped off the first game of the double header with four more runs to take game one 13-5. Crystal Ortega takes the win for Raton while Kendra Sandoval is credited with the loss for Taos.
In game two Raton went cold going three and out before finally putting a run on the board in the in the second inning. Taos on the other hand redeemed themselves with three ladies rounding the bases in the first and adding one in the second. Raton then managed to hold Taos down to only two in the fourth and one in the fifth and seventh innings for a final of 8-5. Pitcher Veronica Quintana took the win for Taos in game two while Jadyn Walton is credited with the loss for Raton.
The split gives Raton an overall record of 16-4 while remaining undefeated in district play. They will host Pecos on Thursday followed by the makeup game with Santa Fe Indian School on Saturday.
