Floyd Albert Aguilar, 73 entered into eternal peace on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Miners Colfax Medical Center.
Floyd was born on August 19, 1944, a son of the late Alberto Aguilar an Fedelina Faye Romero. He graduated from Roy High School in 1962 and was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years during the Vietnam War. He married his first love, Gloria Anderson, and their daughter Shuree was born August 31, 1968. Floyd worked as an oil and gas pipelayer for a few years while traveling and pursuing his lifelong passion for music. In 1978, he married Stella Chavez, and their son Floyd Florencio was born August 30, 1981. Floyd retired from the Springer New Mexico Boys’ School in 1995 after 25 years. He was very well known in his community for his music, and love of classic automobiles.
Floyd began playing music at a very young age. His first band, Floyd and Charriots he started with his brother John Aguilar when he was in high school. Floyd also sang, played lead guitar and trumpet in bands The Unknown and Special Blend, bands he created with friends and fellow musicians from his hometown who also shared his passion for music. Records of Floyd’s musical performances are deposited are in the collections of the American Folklife Center at the National Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
Friends and family will always remember Floyd for his lighthearted, outgoing, charismatic personality and his service to the community. He was preceded in death by his brother Carlos Romero, sister Mary Louise Maestas, father Alberto Aguilar, mother Fedelina Faye Romero, stepfather Santos Romero, and daughter Shuree Sandin. Floyd is survived by his son Floyd Florencio Aguilar, brother and sisters John Aguilar, Robert Romero, Georgia Arellano, and Filomena Rose Ramirez, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service, followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at Miranda Center in Springer, NM beginning at 11:00 am Saturday, April 7, 2018.
