Fatal Crash in Colfax County

Colfax County, NM – On March 20, 2018 at around 6:45 a.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on U.S. 56 at between mile post 10 and 11 just east of the Chico Creek Bridge east of Springer.

The initial investigation indicates a 1966 Corvette was traveling west on U.S. 56, then for reasons unknown, the Corvette crossed the center line, and appeared to overcorrect, causing the Corvette to slide off the roadway and begin to roll. The driver of the Corvette, Landon Dwight Haydock (66) of Ashland, KS was ejected, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol appears to be a factor and seatbelts were not utilized. No additional information is available at this time.

Maxwell FD, Springer FD and Cimarron Ambulance were on scene at this one vehicle rollover that killed the occupant, Landon Dwight Haydock (66) of Ashland, KS early Tuesday morning.

This Corvette was found on Highway 56/412 east of Springer Tuesday morning.
