Raton struggled in this game picking up where they left off Thursday with several turnovers that cost them points. With more than half the team coming off of the football field and only a few days of practice it will take some time for the boys to gel and get used to playing basketball again. By the final quarter of the game the boys began to work together and hoop for points.

Raton came from behind in the third quarter to tie the game at 26 with 3:43 left in the third. The game changed leads several times and then it came down to the final seconds as Raton lead then La Junta took a one point lead followed by Raton taking the lead 47-46 with nine seconds left. La Junta lost the ball down the court and out of bounds at the half court line. Raton took possession of the ball out of bounds at half court with 2.8 seconds left. La Junta’s Hayden Mayo stole the inbound pass and took it to the basket for two and the win at the buzzer.

Raton started out slow but soon began to come together and put the ball in the basket and reduce the turnovers with bad passes. The battle at the boards was often and tough as Raton battled Custer County’s big boys underneath managed to sink the ball on the put back. Raton scored in double digits for the first three quarters showing improvement hitting the shot over the first two games of the tourney.

Raton started the game off with good shooting and ball control but by the second quarter Trinidad had come back and all but shutoff down the Lady Tigers out scoring Raton by 18 points and taking a good sized lead. While Raton went cold the Lady Miners were hitting most everything they put up. The Lady Tigers battled back in the third but simply couldn’t overcome the big lead the Lady Miners put up in the second quarter.
