The Raton Lady Tiger volleyball team had an excellent regular season this year, and came into the state playoffs as the number 5 seed in the tournament. But, after a disappointing third place finish in pool play on Thursday, November 9th, at Rio Rancho High School, they headed on the bus to Cleveland High School for the must win play-in game on Thursday afternoon against the Dulce Lady Hawks.
The Lady Tigers played as if there were no tomorrow and there wasn’t. If you lose, you’re out, if you win, you make Friday’s quarterfinals. The Tigers started strong and lead by as many as eight late in the first game before giving up some ground to the Lady Hawks, but then finished the job with a 25-20 victory.
The second game had Dulce leading the entire way, but Raton was not to be denied with a strong team effort, took the lead for the first time at 21-20 and then outlasted Dulce 27 -25 in overtime.
The third game was just as dramatic as the Lady Tigers were behind most of the game, but hung close and came on with a late surge to win 25-23, and earned the right to play the number one seed Texico Lady Wolverines on Friday, November 10th at 11:30 am at the Santa Ana Star Center.
