Samuel “Sam” A. Montoya, 82 of Trinidad Colorado passed away, Wednesday September 20, 2017. Sam was born March 31, 1935 in Trinidad Colorado. He married Anita Wallace in 1955 and served his country in the Air Force. Sam worked in the mining industry most of his career and retired in 1995. His passion was hunting and he was always either getting prepared for the hunting season or participating in a hunt. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He also enjoyed fishing and anything related to the outdoors. Sam was a resident of Trinidad for his entire life and his ancestors have lived in the area for over 125 years.
Sam is survived by his wife Anita of 62 years, by two sons, Joseph Montoya and his wife Angela of Springfield Virginia, and Samuel Montoya of Trinidad, Colorado: Two daughters, Eleanor Rael and her husband Carmel of Trinidad Colorado and Denise Montoya-Pimolwatana and her husband Chai of Middletown, Rhode Island, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Montoya.
A viewing for friends of the family will be held at the Comi Chapel, 1804 E Main St, Trinidad, Co 81082 on Monday from 2:00PM to 6:00PM
Celebration of Life service will be held at Faith Christian Fellowship, 2608 Santa Fe Trail, Trinidad, CO 81082 at 4:00PM, Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Active pallbearers are John Martinez, Jose Garcia, David Aragon, Michael Montoya, Dennis Hollingsworth and Isaac Abeyta.
Cremation to follow with private inurnment at the Masonic Cemetery at a later date.
