Dallas D. Nance, 82, of Raton passed away Sunday August 6, 2017 with his children at his side. He was born May 17, 1935 in Athalia, OH, the son of Clarence “Cap” Nance and Ruby Louise Layne.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leslie Nance and wife Lareta Mae Nance.
Dallas is survived by one son Jody D. Nance of Raton, one daughter Dawn M Smith-Laban and husband Christopher of Raton, step daughter Eliz L Valdez and family of Raton. Grandchildren Matthew Robert Newkirk of Houston TX, Amanda Jean Newkirk of Huntsville TX and Devon Gordon Allison of Raton NM. Great Grandchildren Kota Ray Falls of Huntsville TX, and Kai Michelle Coon of Huntsville TX.
Dallas served in the United Stated Air Force from August 22, 1952 to January 15, 1957 and served in the Korean War, also Air Force Reserve from January 15, 1957 until January 16, 1961. He served with the New Mexico State Mounted Patrol for 27 years before retiring as Lieutenant. He was also an avid supporter of the NRA Whittington Center.By request of the family, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Dallas may be given to the NRA Whittington Center, nrawc.org.
