Josefina “Josie” Rosela Encinias, 79, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 21st, 2017. She was born on July 25th, 1937 in Las Vegas and resided there much of her life, always proudly calling Las Vegas home. She moved to Raton, New Mexico in 1975.
Josie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Tony Encinias; brother Pete Martinez and wife Grace; and her children Antonia Kueffer and husband Charlie; Lawrence Encinias and wife Esther; Lupita Encinias and husband BF; Christine Valentini and husband Larry; Edward Encinias and fiancé Josie Marquez; John Encinias; Paul Encinias; and Alex Encinias and wife Julie.
Left to treasure her memory are her 13 beloved grandchildren, 19 adored great-grandchildren, cherished nephews and nieces and her sisters-in-law; Delia Gallegos (Joe), Theresa Archuleta (Reuben), and Marcela Lovato (Leo).
She is preceded in death by her parents Calletana and Pedro Martinez; her husband’s parents Ramona and Jacobo Encinias; five brothers, and one sister. She also leaves behind the many friends she considered family and welcomed into her life and heart.
Josie retired from the state government after 26 years of exceptional service including her work as a claims processor and employment interviewer among others. Her retirement years were filled with spending time with family, creating beautiful handmade jewelry and writing autobiographical stories and poems, many of which were published.
She will be remembered for her prayerful spirit, excellent cooking, delightful sense of humor, wolf whistle, playful nature, and warm and welcoming heart.

Services will be held at St. Patrick’s St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 105 Buena Vista St. Raton, NM 87740, on July 28, 2017. Rosary 10:00am, eulogy, and Mass to follow. Pallbearers will consist of her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
