Happy Gary Blacksten of Springer, NM passed away at the age of 63.
Happy Gary Blacksten was born in Springer, NM on February 8, 1954 to Art and Adalee Blacksten. He graduated from Springer High School in 1972 with 12 years of perfect attendance. Happ went on to become a well-known businessman. During his life he touched the hearts of many, many people across the nation. He proved to be an intelligent businessman, rancher, farmer, and hounds man. He was most passionate about hunting the mountains in the surrounding area. Some would say Happ is “THE Legend”.
Through his business dealings, Happ created numerous acquaintances and many great friendships. Many friends became family. Stories will be told of Happ for decades to come!! Happ truly had a captivating personality which others loved to be around. Happ is very well known to be a man of his word, loyal, honest and the most hard working man you’ve ever met.
Happ is predeceased by his parents, Art and Adalee Blacksten; his brothers, Herbert Blacksten, Hailey Blacksten, and Harvey Blacksten.
Happ is survived by his eldest brother, Howard Blacksten and sister, Gracy Blacksten, and nephew, Mac Blacksten.
Happ is also lovingly remembered by his companion Robin; his three children, Zachary Blacksten, Zandra Blacksten, Zoann Blacksten; his 2 step children, Jake Pilley, Chaz Pilley; along with 8 grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. His grandchildren were the light of his life! Happ truly touched the lives of so many and will continue to be a part of our every day lives.
The memorial services will commence at The Mavrick Club in Cimmaron, NM on Sunday, May 7th at 11:00 AM. The family would like to welcome all to stay at the Maverick Club for a potluck lunch. Please feel free to bring a dish or drink to share. The potluck lunch will also allow for all to share stories of Happ Blacksten.
The family will have a memorial plank placed at the museum at Philmont and welcome all to visit the special place for decades to come.

My son,Thomas and I have lost a dear friend. Over the years we enjoyed elk and bear hunting with Happ and Robin and we will have those memories forever. New Mexico has lost a great outfitter and many have lost a dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Steve Jones.
