As part of Stewardship Week, which runs April 30 through May 7, 2017, the Colfax Soil & Water Conservation District (Colfax SWCD) will be honoring Arbor Day 2017 with the help of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and our local International Bank of Raton.
Colfax SWCD will be in a collaborative project with the above mentioned in presenting to the 3rd grade students of Colfax County the importance of Arbor Day in ways of how the forest can benefit our environment. Engelmann Spruce and Ponderosa Pine tree seedlings will be given out to students along with tree planting instructions. NRCS Soil Conservationist, Margaret Gigante will present a short program to the school children representing Maxwell, Springer, and Raton on Wednesday, April 26th; Cimarron on Thursday April 27th and Eagle Nest May 1st.
On Friday, April 28th, the official day to celebrate Arbor Day, the representatives will be at International Bank with handouts and tree seedlings to give out to the public.
