This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Brantley Lake: Brodie Linthicum, 6, of Roswell, caught a 16-inch white bass March 27. He was using a crank bait.
Elephant Butte Lake: Alyssa Prince of Las Cruces caught a 43.7-inch, 35-pound striped bass April 2. She was fishing the back of Ash Canyon with 12-pound braid to a 6-pound leader and using a 5-inch shad pattern senko.
Fenton Lake: Isabel Hernandez, 5, of Sandia Pueblo, caught a nice rainbow trout March 30. She was using red, white and blue PowerBait.
Pecos River: Andres Martinez caught a 6-pound catfish March 27. He was fishing the river near Puerto de Luna and using chicken liver.
Santa Rosa Lake: P.J. Villanueva of Santa Rosa caught a 28-inch, 7.5-pound walleye about March 29. He was using a curly tail grub. Leonard Madrid of Santa Rosa caught a 30-inch, 8-pound walleye about March 29. He was using a curly tail grub. Dominic Chavez of Santa Rosa caught a nice smallmouth bass estimated to be about 21 inches in length and weighing about 4 pounds April 1. He was using a jerk bait.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Mia Farrington, 8, and Tristan Farrington, 4, both of Albuquerque each caught three rainbow trout March 26. They were using salmon eggs.

Northeast
Charette Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and corn masa for limits of rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species. Due to low water conditions, the boat ramp remains closed.
Cimarron River: Stream flow below Eagle Nest Lake on Monday was .20 cfs. Trout fishing was fair using San Juan worms, salmon eggs and worms for brown and rainbow trout. A section of the river has been closed due to a fuel spill. The closed area starts at mile marker 291 and goes to the Perryville Day use area. Anglers are asked to steer clear of the area. We had no reports from the Gravel Pit Lakes.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, jerk baits, swim baits, senkos and grubs for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair using jig and grub combinations, crank baits and jig and minnow combinations for walleye. Fishing was fair to good using crank baits for white bass. Fishing was fair using small grubs, small tubes and minnows for crappie. Fishing was fair to good using liver and cut bait for catfish. The surface water temp was in the mid 50s.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was slow.
Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: Bank fishing was good using, salmon eggs and PowerBait for rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species. The lake has opened to boating but the courtesy docks are not yet in place.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: Trout fishing was good using black and olive wooly buggers, elk hair caddis, parachute Adams, Pistol Petes and PowerBait. A few trout were also taken on Z Rays and PowerBait.
Los Pinos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using spoons and PowerBait.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using San Juan worms, PowerBait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes for trout.
Morphy Lake: Trout fishing was slow.
Pecos River: Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 123 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using San Juan worms, copper John Barrs, salmon eggs, corn and worms for trout. Joseph Roybal of Pecos caught two nice rainbow trout this past Sunday while fishing the river near the Dalton day use area. They measured 18 inches and 19.5 inches and were caught with corn.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 80 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week
Red River City Ponds: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 1,630 cfs. Fishing in the Taos area remained slow due to high water conditions. Fishing down river from Bernalillo was fair using liver, cut bait and night crawlers for catfish. We had no other reports.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 37 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 52 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Barbara River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was fair using Z Rays, Kastmasters, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Shuree Ponds: Open for the season July 1.
Springer Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using cut bait and swim baits for northern pike in the 23 to 26-inch range. We had no reports on other species.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, corn and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Ute Lake: Fishing was fair to good using jig and minnow combinations, curly tail grubs and jerk baits for walleye. The jerk baits worked best in the late evening hours. Fishing was fair using medium and deep running crank baits for white bass. Fishing was fair using senkos, grubs and other soft plastics for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using stink baits and prepared baits in shallow water for catfish. The surface water temp was in the mid 50s.
Winsor Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing has been slow with just an occasional walleye and smallmouth bass caught by anglers using jigs and grubs. The surface water temp was in the high 40s.
Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 943 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing on the Albuquerque, Bernalillo and Peralta drains was good salmon eggs, worms, PowerBait, copper John Barrs, small spinners and marshmallows for trout. Fishing for catfish and largemouth bass was fair using worms. We had no other reports.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using worms, corn salmon egg combinations and PowerBait for trout. Fishing for tiger muskie was fair for anglers using jig and grub combinations, swim baits, large flies and crank baits. We had no other reports.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice due to danger from falling trees.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 1,220 cfs and 1,520 cfs respectively. Fishing has been slow with the high-water release. A few trout have been caught by anglers using salmon eggs and worms. NEW SPECIAL TROUT WATER: Catch and release with use of artificial fly and lure and single barbless hook only from the USGS gauging station below Cooper’s Landing to the Rio Nutrias confluence.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. A few smallmouth bass have been caught by anglers using crank baits, jigs and spinner baits. We had no other reports
El VadoLake: Fishing was good again this past week using crank baits and jerk baits near the dam for smallmouth bass. We had no other reports. The main area park boat ramp opened Saturday.
Fenton Lake: Fishing from float tubes and small boats was good using may fly imitations, wooly buggers and Pistol Petes for trout. Fishing from the bank with bait was a bit slower but anglers did manage to catch a few using PowerBait and salmon eggs.
Heron Lake: Bank fishing was good using roe sacs and green and salmon peach PowerBait for rainbow trout and a few kokanee salmon. We had no other reports. The Sierra Vista boat ramp opened this past weekend and the boat dock is in place.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 237 cfs. The Jemez, San Antonio, East Fork were running high and fishing has been slow. Fishing on the Cebolla was fair using worms and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Lake Farmington: Nonmotorized watercraft are now allowed on Lake Farmington. Fees are $50 for the season or $5 daily. We had no reports from anglers.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits and PowerBait for brown trout and rainbow trout. Fishing was fair using jigs, worms, grubs, swim baits and crank baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using swim baits, spinner baits and crank baits for northern pike. We had no other reports.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers.
San Juan River: Stream flow from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 490 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality waters was fair to good using red larva, red annelids, small jigs, OJs, comparaduns and olive and brown wooly buggers. Fishing through the bait waters was good using salmon eggs, PowerBait, night crawlers, copper John Barrs, wooly buggers, jerk baits and Kastmasters.
Tingley Beach: Trout fishing at the Central and Youth ponds was good using PowerBait, Gulp eggs, marshmallow salmon eggs combinations, homemade dough bait, small spoons and Pistol Petes. We had no other reports.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest
Alumni Pond: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using garlic PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and Pistol Petes for rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was fair using grubs, tubes and minnows for a mixed bag of walleye, white bass and crappie. The best action was reported from anglers fishing the upper end of the lake. We had no other reports.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was fair to good using crank baits, jerk baits, tubes, top water lures and grubs for white bass. Fishing was fair using tubes, spinner baits, senkos, grubs, swim baits, crank baits and jerk baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair to good using cut bait, prepared baits and liver for catfish. Our only other report was the big striped bass listed in Catches of the Week.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was fair to good using Kastmasters, PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing for all other species was slow.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 374 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was fair using worms and PowerBait for trout. Anglers using worms also picked up a few catfish.
Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 1,380 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using grubs, minnows and spoons for white bass and walleye. We had no other reports.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: Fishing was slow for all species.
Southeast
Alto Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no other reports.
Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 5.2 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using salmon eggs and worms for trout. We had no other reports.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.
Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms, salmon eggs, corn, Panther Martins and Kastmasters for trout.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. Fishing was very good using crank baits, swim baits, senkos, tubes, grubs and jerk baits for a mixed bag of white bass and largemouth bass. Anglers did very well trolling crank baits along the dam.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Fishing was fair to good using worms, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs, worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms, small spoons, Pistol Petes and garlic cheese for trout. We had no other reports.
Eunice Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was good using small spoons, salmon eggs, garlic cheese, worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, homemade dough bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was very good using worms, salmon eggs, PowerBait and spinners for trout. We had no other reports.
Jal Lake: Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, worms and PowerBait for trout.
Lake Van: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, spoons, spinners and salmon eggs for trout.
Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 105 cfs. Fishing was good using PowerBait, worms and homemade dough bait for trout. We had no other reports.
Perch Lake: Fishing was good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing was slow to fair using stink bait and worms for catfish. We had no other reports.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 16 cfs. Fishing was good using salmon eggs and worms for trout.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, jerk baits, minnows and swim baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing for walleye picked up a bit this past week as a few were caught by anglers using minnows and curly tail grubs. We had no other reports.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair to good using jigs, minnows, curly tail grubs, crank baits and bottom bouncer spinner minnow combinations for walleye. Fishing was fair using crank baits, spinner baits, swim baits, grubs, worms and senkos for white bass, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. We had no other reports.
