Gary David Matthews, age 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017, at his home in Plano, TX.
He was born July 31, 1943, in Scottsbluff, NE, to Glenn and Phyllis (Terry) Matthews. Gary lived and worked most of his life in Maxwell, NM. He was an architectural engineer, and many of the commercial and residential buildings he designed can still be found throughout Northeastern New Mexico. In his later years, Gary most enjoyed time with three of his grandsons, and he always loved to spend time visiting and sharing stories with close friends, wherever he happened to be. Gary had a positive and profound influence on nearly every person with whom he came in contact. He is survived by his son, Garrick; his daughter, Chandra; five grandchildren: Sean, Ryan, Kolin, Victoria, and Jacek; one brother, Terry; two sisters, Lynn and Jan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Gary touched are invited to the Maxwell Methodist Church on Saturday, July 15, at 10:00 AM for a memorial service in Gary’s honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FarmAid to help those who work the land.
