Raton Parks & Recreation Competes for $20K Grant

NRPA has an exciting grant opportunity for Raton. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is collaborating with The Walt Disney Company, including Disney Citizenship, Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN on the Meet Me at the Park initiative to provide 16 communities with a $20,000 grant to improve local parks.

As part of the initiative, one of those 16 communities (hopefully Raton) will be selected through a nomination process. Starting April 1, the public can nominateRaton every day through the online voting website. The city with the most nominations will be the winner.

Here are some key dates moving forward:

  • April 1 — Nominating begins, post messages on social media
  • April 30 — Nominating period closes
  • May 2 — NRPA contacts the park and recreation agency that governs the winning city
  • May 18 — Winning city and park announced publicly

The winning city (hopefully Raton) will choose a local park in their district to receive the $20,000 grant for a park improvement project or program that connects youth to nature, increases youth’s access to sports, and/or inspires healthy living within the grant period of May to September.
