The RHS cheer and dance teams presented their state spirit competition routines to the public Tuesday evening at Tiger Gym.
The teams will travel Thursday to Albuquerque this weekend for a two day event at the PIT on the University of New Mexico campus. RHS Cheer will perform around 9:00 a.m. both Friday and Saturday while the dance team will perform mid afternoon after 2:00 p.m.
This year the cheer teams have a different competition with a game day routine that will include a cheer based on an announcement by an announcer for a defense or offensive routine. The cheer routines have also been extended to a three minute routine from a minute and half. Crowd participation will be a part of the scoring for Raton so they are hoping for a good loud turnout this year.
TigerCats Dance will perform a Pom routine and a Jazz dance routine. As Raton is the only class 3A team left in the state they will compete against class 4A teams. Some of the other dance teams will perform a precision drill routine as opposed to a jazz routine making it tough to compare the two routines for points.
