Raton hosted Clayton for Clayton’s first ever softball game Tuesday afternoon and came away with a 15-0 shutout.
To start the game Raton put its first four players around the horn to make it a 4-0 ballgame while allowing only one hit in the inning for Clayton. Clayton comes into the game with almost no experience as this is the first year for the school to offer softball for the girls.
Raton freshman pitcher Crystal Ortiz went the distance with three strikeouts as Raton rallied in the second and rounded five players to make it a 9-0 ballgame. As the third inning got underway Clayton did a three and out while Raton loaded the bases and Camryn Stoeker knocked an in the park home run into deep center field.
