Raton hosted Tierra Encantada Saturday evening for another round of district basketball competition and came away with a mark in the win column for both varsity teams.
The varsity ladies took to the court first (no JV games) and Raton took the early lead in the game by working the ball around and down inside to Sydni Silva who managed to drop in six points. From the outside both Estrella Vargas and Andie Ortega rounded out the scoring. The Lady Scorpians struggled getting the ball inside and were forced to settle for the outside shot. They also struggled at the line going one of six in the first quarter.
Second quarter action the Lady Scorpions faired a little better at the line going three of seven and keeping up with the Lady Tigers from the floor with both teams scoring in double digits.
Second half action saw the Lady Scorpions defense stall the Lady Tigers efforts at scoring and bring the game to within one point before the Lady Tigers defense went to work and stopped the Lady Scorpions from staying close. By the time the final buzzer sounded the Lady Tigers had once again extended the lead 14 and pulled off the win 51-37.
