The Pecos Panthers and Lady Panthers travelled up to Raton and not just won the games they played but simply dominated the court showing why they are such a power house in AAA basketball.
JV Girls
This game started out with the Lady Panthers completely dominating the court and holding Raton scoreless in the first quarter and to only six in the second. When it was all said and done the final score was 49-12. The Lady Panthers pressed and stole their way to a Raton scoreless quarter and then continued the pressure into the second and third quarters. Not only that what Raton did manage to put up just wouldn’t go in.
Pecos 25 16 8 9 49
Raton 0 6 3 3 12
JV Boys
The JV boys game Wasn’t much better as the Panthers held the boys to only 16 points in the first half of play. The Panthers also stole and pressed their way into the points lead. The JV boys also worked the ball inside where they almost never missed from close in. They also exhibited speed and aggressive defense to spoil what little Raton could even get down court.
Pecos 24 22 8 13 67
Raton 8 0 4 3 15
Varsity Girls
The only game to even stay close was the varsity girls game where Raton managed to keep the point spread within reason. The Lady Panther defense however pressed their way to stolen balls and points on the turnovers while the Raton defense was effective at times just couldn’t hold the Lady Panthers at bay allowing double digit quarters the entire game. Raton’s Estrella Vargas had a great night at the free throw line making 11 of 12 shots which is one of the best showings for Raton in several games with Raton as a team going 13 of 15 free throws.

Varsity Boys
The varsity boys game went much like the JV boys with Pecos simply dominating the court with pressure, steals and they too worked the ball inside where they missed very few shots. Pecos also managed the boards coming down with the rebounds that prevented Raton from putting the missed shots back up. The pressure started from the get go and allowed Pecos to hold Raton to only 10 points in the first quarter and six in the second while they found the bucket for 50 points by halftime.
