Chief Warrant Officer (Ret.) Jerry F. Smith passed away Monday December 19, 2016.
Jerry was born on December 1, 1928 in Mosquero, NM to Moschelle and William Smith.
He attended High School in Roy, NM where he met his wife of 68 years, Patricia Jane Anderson, who preceded him in death September 2014. Jerry excelled in sports and held the high school state record in the 440 for 17 years. Jerry and Patricia moved to Springer, NM after they were married where they would live until 2010 when they moved to Albuquerque.
Jerry served in the New Mexico National Guard for a total of 39 years and 7 months; first as an Administrative Assistant and then as a Recruiter for the US Army National Guard. He was awarded The Legion of Merit medal along with numerous other medals and awards.
Jerry and Patricia were successful business owners specializing in rescuing and renovating historical buildings in Springer, NM including The Gambles building, The Mills Mansion, The Brown Hotel and The Livery Stable.
Above all else, Jerry and Patricia loved the Lord and honored Him by helping the less fortunate.
He was preceded in death by wife Patricia; sons, Jerry Jr. and Dale; daughter, Dana Wagoner; granddaughter, Chelsea Sullivan; brother, Jean Smith; sister, Kathryn Smith.
He is survived by his brother William Smith (Lorraine); daughter, Katrinka; two sons, Eric (Rose) and Nathan (Liz); 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be given to First United Methodist Church, Springer, NM 87747 where the Smiths were members for 65 years.
Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the church in Springer. He and his wife Patricia will be buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:15 pm followed by a memorial reception at the Lodge at Santa Fe.
