Joshua Vargas was honored at City Hall in Raton today (Dec 21, 2016) for his actions on October 8, 2016 when as he put it, “I was in the right place at the right time.”
Stella Sintas was outside turning her water on in the backyard when she fell head first into the 4x4x4 hole that had the water valves in it. After being trapped in the hole for almost five hours she said she heard the dogs barking and knew someone was close by so she started yelling and soon Joshau Vargas showed up.
He then went to get help and later showed Raton EMS to the location where Sintas had been trapped. Sintas was transported to the hospital where she recovered from her injuries.
In a short statement Vargas simply said, “I am just a 10-year old boy who was in the right place at the right time.” He went on to say that the real heroes are the fire fighters, police and our military, “those are the guys who deserve the real thanks,” he added.
