– Raton Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 7:21 pm Tuesday evening, December 13th of a man at 1121 South Second Street who may have been shot. Upon arrival, officers entered the residence and found a Zacariah Holderby, age 34, on the floor bleeding heavily and suffering from a gunshot wound to the forehead. Holderby was transported to MCMC by Raton Fire and Emergency Services and was later transported to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque where he remained in critical condition overnight and then passed away during the day on Wednesday, December 15th.
According the Raton Police Chief John Garcia, through investigation officers made contact with Holderby’s longtime girlfriend Crystal Vigil (35) of Raton. After an extensive interview with Vigil she was placed under arrest and transported to Vigil Maldonado Detention Center. Vigil was originally charged with Attempted Murder, Felon in possession of a firearm and Tampering with evidence, but after Holderby’s death the charge will be upgraded to an open count of murder.
Please keep my family in your prayers during this terrible time. We will update more regarding the memorial services as it comes available. Thank you and God bless.
