In Loving Memory of Carmel Middleton

Carmel Middleton passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at MCMC Hospital in Raton, NM Joining her dance partner of 51 years and the love of her life, Thad.

Carmel was born on February 4, 1923 to Bonaficia and Jose Martinez in Laguna, N M.

She is survived by her children, Marcus (Carol) Middleton of Port Huron, MI, Kathee ( Walt) Oldham of Raton, NM, Mary Lou ( Tim) Carter of Port Huron, MI and Bert (Sharon) Middleton of Durango, CO. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Joy, Jon, Thad, John, Mark, Travis, Jude, Aubree, Caitlin, Emily, and MacKenzee and 12+ great-grandchildren, Emily, Dylan, Madison,, Travis, Grant, Oliver, TJ, Wesley, Dakota, Eli, Aria and Juliet who she loved with all her heart. Step-grandchildren, David, Nathan, Joshua, and Linda Mae. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and so many friends in all the places she had lived.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thad in 2007, her daughter and son-n-law Jacqueline and John Bicknell. Parents Bonaficia and Jose, her six brothers Paul, Tom, Lito, Matt, Abran, and Manuel Martinez and five sisters, Anna Ortiz, Delia Trujillo, Lena Sanchez, Margaret Lopez and an infant sister, Paulina.

middletonShe was an avid bowler, past-president of the B.P.O. Does 99 of Raton, joined many clubs, quilting, welcome-wagon of Michigan and the hospital auxiliaries in Steamboat Springs, CO. and the MCMC Hospital Auxiliary. Carmel also was a sorority sister of Beta Sigma Phi in Steamboat Springs and Raton.

Carmel started her work career as a waitress, “Rosie the Riveter”, U.S. Military as a secretary in Colorado Springs, CO., the State Capital of NM in Santa Fe, NM, Springer Production in Springer, NM, Raton Credit Bureau, Finance Company of Raton, Gate City Building and Loan, Raton, NM and finished out her career at TIC (The Industrial Co.) in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Recitation of the most holy Rosary will be Friday November 18, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton, Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 with Father John Brasher as the celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
