It took the varsity three games to tame the Lady Panthers from Pecos Saturday evening but a different story for the JV as Raton dropped both games in the match to Pecos.
It was a slow start as Raton JV volleyball took to the court and allowed Pecos to take an early lead in the both games. The JV Lady Tigers simply couldn’t make the hits over the net and quickly fell behind. Pecos continued to dominate at the net as Raton had trouble handling the slams over the net with many pass attempts going wide or out of bounds.

In the varsity match Raton starts out game one with serves out of bounds and slams that also found the far side of the floor. By the mid point in game one Raton finally began to find the handle on the ball and with strong play at the net managed to take the lead and quickly make the point spread and won the game handily.
Game two saw Raton not only take the lead but dominate the play at the net as well as on the serve. Pecos simply faltered and was unable to make the hits to keep the ball in play.
Game three became the game of the match as Raton took an early and commanding lead only to falter and watch as Pecos closed the gap to four. Raton managed to keep the four point spread throughout the remainder of the game until Pecos found a rhythm and tied the game at 22, again at 23 and took the lead at 25. As the tension built Raton finally managed to break the tie and bring home the win as Pecos missed a couple of hits over the net.
