Katrina Sue Green Fairchild of Sherman, Texas, died at home on September 19, 2016 at the age of 47 after a heroic four year battle with cancer.
Katie was born in Racine, Wisconsin on June 25, 1969. While in elementary school she moved with her parents to Raton, New Mexico, where she graduated from Raton High School in 1987. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Wisconsin State University, Superior, WI, in 1991. After graduation, she moved to Texas where she pursued her graduate studies at West Texas A & M University in Canyon, TX and became a certified dyslexia reading specialist. Katie was a teacher at Washington Elementary in Sherman, TX until her death. Prior to living and teaching in Sherman, she taught in Whitesboro and Prosper.
Katie is survived by her parents, Harvey and Georgiana Green of Bella Vista, Arkansas; her brother Kyle and his wife Angela Green, niece Alyssa and nephews Cody and Trevan Green of Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was the dedicated and loving mother to her daughters Ellyn Lynae and Erika Kristine, and son Aidan Michael, all of Sherman. Bilmar Garcia was her constant companion and support during the last few months of her life.
Katie had developed many amazing friendships through her work, her knitting and her craft groups. She and her family deeply appreciated their kindness and support during her illness. Guardian Hospice staff members were all a blessing.
Katie attended Fusion Bible Church in Sherman.
A celebration of Katie’s life will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Sherman on Saturday, September 24 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel located on Mulberry St. Father Rob Yaksich, of Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assissi in Santa Fe, NM, and other clergy will participate in the service.
