Viola M. (Smith) Bownds, age 92, died Monday, August 22, 2016 in Clayton, New Mexico.

Viola M. Bownds was born on September 3, 1923 in Lamy, New Mexico to James C. Smith and Fannie Mae (Wilt) Smith.
Viola married Frank Austin Bownds on July 11, 1942, and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2007.
Shortly after they were married, Frank was drafted into the Navy and they moved to Los Angeles, California. They lived in California for about fifty years, where Frank and Viola “Vi” both worked for UniRoyal Tire Company.
Later, Vi worked for House of Travel for twenty-three years which enabled her and Frank to travel all over the world. Frank and Vi lived in Amarillo for fourteen years until his death, and then Vi returned to Clayton, NM.
In addition to her parents and husband, Viola was preceded in death by her only child, Bob Bownds, by three brothers, Hubert Smith, J. C. Smith and Raplh Smith and by two sisters, Dorothy Fisher and Genevieve Dean.

and a host of nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
