August 19, 2016 – Adrian Duran, the second fugitive wanted in connection with the murder of a Raton man last Sunday evening, was arrested on Friday afternoon, August 19th in Cimarron by officers of the Colfax County Sheriff’s Department, the NM State Police and the Cimarron Police Department. According to Colfax County Under Sheriff Leonard Baca, Jr., a tip was received concerning the whereabouts of Duran and a warrant was obtained for the residence and while officers were outside, Duran walked out and surrendered without incident.
He was transported to the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center and awaits arraignment on charges of First Degree Murder and Tampering With Evidence.
Special to KRTN – Colfax County Sheriff’s Office, Raton Police Department, and New Mexico State Police responded to a tip received from the community and Raton Crime Stoppers about the whereabouts of a suspect wanted in the in the August 14th murder of Charles Romero, 20. The tip on Wednesday, August 17, at 7:12 pm was for a residence at 1409 State St in Raton, NM.
Colfax County Sheriff’s Office Deputies obtained a search warrant to enter the residence and after a search, the suspect Louis Duran, was located inside and was arrested without incident. Duran had an active warrant for Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree (OPEN CHARGE), Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of Firearm or Destructive Device by a Felon. Also in the residence was Sidney Pena, who also was taken into custody for on a charge of Harboring or Aiding a Felon. Both were transported to the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center and booked accordingly without incident.
