Raton-born Biochemist, Dr. Paul Modrich (Class of 1964), received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2015 for his work in DNA mismatch repair. To honor his achievement, the RHS Class of 1971 has asked for and received Dr. Modrich’s permission to establish a scholarship in his name.
Starting in 2017 and each year thereafter, a scholarship will be awarded to one Raton High School graduate in the amount of $2000. Details for application will be available in the Guidance Counselor’s office at RHS.
By naming this scholarship in honor of Dr. Modrich, The Class of 1971 celebrates his relentless pursuit of knowledge and his efforts on behalf of mankind. Ratonians are inspired by Dr. Modrich’s humility, as when he credits his/our hometown as key to his success.
The RHS Class of 1971 asks the public to join them in helping deserving Raton graduates pursue their dreams – by making a contribution to the Dr. Paul Modrich Scholarship Fund.
As of August 8, 2016, the Class of 1971 had raised (online) $5,790 of the $10,000 goal at www.gofundme.com/2che8r8
