James Daniel Hainlen Sr. “Red”, passed away unexpectedly at Parkview Medical Center on July 18, 2016, at the age of 92.
Red was born on February 4, 1924 to Helen and Ed Hainlen.
He grew up in Trinidad where he was a lifelong resident.
Red joined the US Navy on June 7, 1942, 6 months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He was 18 years old.
After completing his basic training in San Diego, CA and attending aviation school in Norman, OK, he was assigned to the Naval Patrol Squadron 14 (VP-14), one of the many Naval reconnaissance squadrons that served in the Pacific Theatre of Operation during World War II.
After the war, Red returned to Trinidad where he hired on with the Santa Fe Railroad in Raton, NM. He later took a job with the Colorado and Southern Railroad which later became Burlington Northern, where he retired in 1986 as an Engineer after many years of service.
He then pursued his love of gardening on his beloved Ponderosa Ranch.
Red is survived by his two sons, James D. Hainlen Jr., Trinidad, CO, Kim Hainlen Jr., Phoenix, AZ, grandson Khan of Phoenix, AZ, sister Shirley Watson, Escondido, CA, numerous nieces, nephews, many dear friends including special friends Marie (Theresa) Martinez and Valente Holguin of Trinidad, CO.
There will be no services at this time.
