Luis B. Zavala (known by his family as “John”), age 76, of Raton, NM passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Raton.
He was born July 8, 1939 in Dawson, NM, son of Jesus and Rose Villasenor-Zavala.
Luis was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as by his brother, Raoul Zavala, and by his sisters, Beatrice Vasquez, Jessie Valdez, Chris Sanchez and Carmen Rivali.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy, and two daughters, Debra Fritsch and husband Harry of Corona, CA and Suzanne Cruz and husband Michael of La Mirada, CA. His surviving four sisters, Josie Moreno of Corona, CA, Ruth Bush and husband Jerald of Jonesboro, GA, Ann Maya and husband Louis of Morrison, CO, Carol Grizzle and husband Virgil of Laguna Hills, CA and his three brothers, Edward Zavala and wife Betty of Raton, NM, Alfonso Zavala and wife Fern of Loudon, TN and David Zavala and wife Socorro of Los Angeles, CA., and his five beloved grandchildren, Brittany Fritsch, Marissa Fritsch, Brianna Cruz, Michael Patrick Cruz and Joseph Cruz and great granddaughter, Scarlett Cunningham.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Connie Shields officiating. Inurnment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton, NM with full military honors provided by the Colfax County Young Marines.
