In Loving Memory of Susan “Susie” Eloisa Sosa

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and little gram, Susan “Susie” Eloisa Sosa was born on May 10, 1937 in Chiron, CO to Paul and Lois Sosa and was called home on May 26, 2016.
Susan was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, whom raised Susie, her parents, her brother Leo Sosa, and her closest cousins Carlos and William “Wedo” Sanchez.
Susan is survived by her sisters Pauline (Kit) Lopez of Colorado and Elsie Laca of California; her daughters Patricia Schmidt husband Bill of Arizona, Sue Duran husband Ron of Raton; Linda Cavallo husband David of Wisconsin; Jackie Valentine of Wisconsin; sons Bill Valentine wife Dung of Texas; Frank Valentine wife Terry of Wisconsin; John Valentine of Wisconsin; Ralph Valentine wife Christine of Wisconsin; and Paul Valentine wife Lisa of Wisconsin; her closest precious grandchildren Matt Duran wife Sara their children Zeke, Matthew, Reona of Raton; Agatha Martinez husband Paul Sr. their children Joseph, Jeremiah, Michael-Angel, Paul Jr., and Angelo of Denver; Suzette Berg husband Larry Sr. their children Amethyst, Larry Jr., and Analiese of Raton; Roni Sandoval husband Leroy Sr. their children Alayah, Leroy Jr., and Kaylee of Raton; and step-grandson Dutch Duran wife Sara of Colorado Springs. Susie also had 19 other grandchildren and 22 other great-grandchildren whom she also loved with all of her heart as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Susie graduated from Raton High School in 1956. In 1957, she married William P. Valentine in Raton, NM. A few years later they moved to Springer. Susie was a very hardworking home maker; she also helped run a dairy route for many years until they decided to move to Wisconsin where they purchased a dairy farm. Susie returned to NM in 1979 after she and her husband parted ways. Susie lived with her daughter Sue and son-law Ron until the time of her passing.
Susie was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s- St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She also sang in the church choir and helped with a booth during the fiesta. She was a regular performer during the annual Lip Sync. Susie loved to dance and sing. She enjoyed listening to Spanish music on the radio especially every Sunday to Canciones Mexicanos. She always had a book to read or time to play patty-cakes with her great-grandchildren.
Susie loved life to the fullest and could always make us laugh and smile. The memories we have will be forever in our hearts. She was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be on Sunday June 5, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Sunday June 5, 2016 at 7:00 pm at St. Patrick’s- St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Larry Guara. Mass of the resurrection will be Monday June 6, 2016 at 10:00 am with Father John Trambley and Father Daniel Balizan as the celebrants. Rite of Christian Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton, NM. Celebration of Life will follow at St. Patrick’s- St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.
