Our beloved mother and grandmother, Clorinda R. Mares went home to be with the Lord on April 20, 2016 in Elkhart, Indiana. She was born in Palo Blanco, New Mexico on September 30, 1922, raised in Springer, New Mexico, and a resident of Raton, New Mexico.
Clorinda is preceded in death by her parents Juan and Petra Romero, her three sons Jesus, Louis, and Juan Quintana, daughter Rose Vela, brother Steve Romero and sisters Fedilia Salazar and Isabelle Garcia, grandchildren Jennifer Contreras, Jonathan Quintana and Joanne Quintana, great-grandchildren Nathan Trujillo, Reina Sarinana, Chuck Quintana Jr., and son-in-law, Frank Gonzales. Widowed twice, she is preceded in death by first husband Louis Quintana and second husband Ezequiel Mares.
She is survived by daughter Lucy Trujillo (Gilbert), son Carlos Quintana, daughter Mary Jean Strohm (Felix), daughter Rita Reynaga (John), daughter Ramona Gonzales, and son George Quintana (Charlotte); along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a beloved sister-in-law Cleo Romero.
Clorinda was a member of First Christian Church in Raton, NM. She served as a deaconess and devoted many years of service in the ministry to reaching the lost and giving hope to others. Her greatest desire was to fulfill God’s plan for her life. She was a witness and example to her family, always stressing the importance of loving one another, prayer, and reading your bible. Anyone who knew her loved her. She was a kind, loving, and generous person and her family will miss her greatly, but her example and love will live on in our hearts.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at First Christian Church in Raton, NM on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
