Margarita (Margie) Florencia Armijo was born on August 15, 1942 in Heck Canyon, NM to Julio and Sofia Cordova Chavez and went to be with our Lord on April 9, 2016 in Santa Fe, NM. She was preceded in death by her father Julio Chavez, Sr. and her mother Sofia Chavez. Paternal grandparents, Nestor and Josefita Chavez. Maternal grandparents, Rubel and Eloisa Cordova. Infant sister, Mary Alice Chavez and two brothers, Julian Chavez and Benny Chavez.
She is survived by her husband of fifty three years, Joe Armijo; daughters Diana Alderette and husband Vince and Yvonne Turley and husband Danny all of Springer. Grand children: Matthew Garcia, Victoria and husband Howard Mwenguo, Danny Turley, Jr. and Colleen Eungard, Joseph Turley and Mary Archuleta and one great-grandchild DeAngelo Mwenguo. Brothers, Tommy Chavez of Redman, Oregon; Julio Chavez, Jr. and Angie, Albert Chavez and Frances, Joe Chavez and Louise all of Springer. Gilbert Chavez and Patsy of Capitan, NM and Ernie Chavez and Patty of Thornton, Colorado. Sisters, Josephine Vigil and Tony of Rio Rancho; Stella Aguilar, Patsy Henrie and Ballard of Springer; Theresa Lopez and Ernie of Maxwell and Lorraine Quintana of Espanola; Sister-in-laws, Dorothy Chavez of Dumas, Texas and Mary Chavez of Cimarron. Numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Springer, Legion of Mary, Altar Society and Senior Citizens. She devoted many years of her life to these organizations. She visited the sick and prayed with many in her community, as well as weekly visits with the residents of Colfax General Long Term Facility in Springer. Margie cared for many of her nieces and nephews and for many children of the Springer community throughout her life. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, especially the newest addition to her family her first great-grand child, DeAngelo.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springer on Saturday April 16th 10a.m. with Legion Of Mary. Followed by the Solemn Mass of the Resurrection at 1030 a.m. with Father Emmanuel Izuka and Deacon Gilbert “Tito” Chavez as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Springer Cemetery.
