The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office was Dispatched to a 911 call in Eagle Nest NM on March 19, 2016 at approximately 8 pm. The call that came in was an accident, and that an 8 month old infant had fallen of the bed, and was unresponsive.
We are waiting on the autopsy report from Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque NM. The Children’s Youth and Family Department is also conducting their investigation as well. Another child in the residence was taken in CYFD’s care. “CYFD had indicated that the parents of the child had been investigated by CYFD before.”
The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. New Mexico State Police Crime Scene Unit was contacted to assist with crime scene documentation, and collection. No names will be released at this time, and there has not been a determination on a crime being committed until the investigation is complete.
According to Undersheriff Leonard Baca no arrests have been made at this time. He added we are in the early stages of the investigation once we receive the pathology report and report from State Police we will move forward.
