Lady Tigers Split Double Header with West Las Vegas

The Lady Tigers opened their home game with a win and then the Lady Dons upset Raton’s winning ways with as they took an demanding lead in game two of the double header Monday afternoon at Jim Wade field in Raton.

The Lady Tigers were feeling good as they came off a tourney win in Pecos this last weekend. The won the tourney with a 7-2 win over East Mountain and another 7-2 win over Estancia. On the final day they took the championship game from Ft Morgan 5-1.

The Lady Tigers took the early lead in game one as Raton’s Andie Ortega rounded the bases on errors for the first run of the game While West went three and out for the first three innings of the game. Raton was on a roll as they added another run in the second and four more in the third.

West finally found the ball and scored two in the fourth. West finished the game in the seventh with one run but not enough for Raton to return to the plate as they they pulled out the victory 10-3.

Game two was a totally different game as West not only found the ball they pummeled it over and over rounding the bases with eight players to create a hole Raton simply couldn’t dig out of. Raton scored two in the second and went on to collect three in the fifth and another in the sixth however it wasn’t enough as West added three more in the game to make it an 11 to 6 win.

Coach Tina Dorrance was disappointed with the hustle of the girls in the second game noting that the errors cost them several points in the first inning.
