In Loving Memory of Christiana “Christe” Ortiz

Christiana “Christe” Ortiz

Our beloved mother, departed this life on Saturday, March 12, 2016.

The first of 7 children, she was born on May 9, 1932 to Josephine and Agapito Lujan in Jaroso Canyon, CO.

On January 22, 1949, Christe married Toribio Ortiz at St. Joseph’s Church in Gulnare, CO.  She then moved to Vigil Canyon and resided in Gulnare on the family ranch until 2007, when she relocated to Colorado Springs with her daughters.

Christe OrtizChriste was a long-time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Aguilar, CO.  And most recently, she was a member of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Black Forest, CO.

As a devoted rancher’s wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Christe’s family was the most important thing in her life. She can always be remembered by her great smile, her warm caring and giving nature, her great cooking and her beautiful crochet projects. She loved all children and taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was pure joy.

Preceding Christe in death are her parents Josephine and Agapito Lujan, her husband Toribio Ortiz, son Leonard Ortiz, brother Pete Lujan, sisters Ascencion Sanchez and Irene Torres and infant sisters and brother.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Art (Patti) Ortiz, Alamosa, CO; Tim Ortiz, Gulnare, CO; Violet Ortiz, Elbert, CO; Sharon Ortiz (Chad Bilstein), Colorado Springs, CO; Anthony (Maria) Ortiz, Colorado Springs, CO; sister Stella (Neil) Scritchfield; brother Joe Lujan; brother Adolfo (Cheryl) Lujan; sister in law Theresa Lujan; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Also surviving are her grandchildren:  Jeune (Christianna) Ortiz, Patrick Ortiz, Regina (Bruce) Denton, Crystal (Todd) Levesque, Tim (Becky) Ortiz Jr., Mike (Keylee) Ortiz, Roger Roscoe Jr., Zachary Roscoe, Jared Bilstein and the “soon to be” Marshall Ortiz.  Great grandchildren: Bryan Denton, Blake Denton, Brianna Denton, Garrick Levesque, Charlyee Ortiz, Kashyn Ortiz, Racee Ortiz, Tim Ortiz III, Trinity Ortiz and  Kaycee “Christiana” Ortiz.

Family Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16th, 2016 from 2pm-3pm and Public Visitation from 3pm-7pm at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel in Trinidad, CO.

Visitation and Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 17th, 2016 at 9am at St. Anthony’s Church in Aguilar, CO.  Rosary will begin at 9:30am  with the Funeral Mass at 10:00am.

Honorary pallbearers are Jeune Ortiz, Regina Denton, Crystal Levesque and Marshall Ortiz.

Active pallbearers will be her six grandsons:  Tim Ortiz Jr., Mike Ortiz, Roger Roscoe, Patrick Ortiz, Zach Roscoe and Jared Bilstein.

Interment will follow at the Trujillo Creek Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband.
