The Raton TigerCats dance team were also in Albuquerque this weekend where they competed against other schools in the 2016 St Pius Cheer and Dance Showcase.
Seven teams competed in the showcase with teams from 6A to 3A. The teams competed in pom, jazz and military. In the Jazz competition it was Las Cruses 1st, Raton 2nd and West Las Vegas 3rd. In the Pom category Volcano Vista 1st, Sandia Prep 2nd, and Las Cruses 3rd. In the Military category Sandia Prep took 1st as they are the only team in that category.
The Schools competing Saturday were; Raton 3A, West Las Vegas 4A, Silver City 4A, Sandia Prep 4A, Las Cruses 5A, Centennial 5A,Volcano Vista 5A.
Both cheer and dance have to compete in at least two competitions in order to compete at the State Spirit competition which will be held in Wise Pies arena aka The Pit on April 1st and 2nd. The Raton teams will hold an exhibition on March 29 at 7:00 p.m. to show off their routines to the hometown fans before making the trip to Albuquerque and the state competition.
