In Loving Memory of Thomas D. Monarco

Thomas D. Monarco, of Aguilar, passed away March 9, 2016 at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home.
He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on January 13, 1929 the son of Tomasina (Romano) and Joseph Monarco Sr.
 
On June 13, 1950, Tom was united in marriage to Mary Grace “Dollie” Messina at Holy Trinity Catholic church in Trinidad, Colorado.
The couple lived in Trinidad until 1956 when they made Aguilar their home. Tom loved Aguilar and its people and was instrumental in early growth of the city.
He began working at the age of 19 for Frontier Power. He would then work as a lineman for San Isabel Electric until his retirement after 29 years of service. Tom  would often be called upon to help people with their electrical needs.
He served as Mayor of Aguilar, 1972-1973, was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish and a member of Aguilar Volunteer Fire Department.
Tom MonarcoHe will be remembered for his many years of driving the fire truck to distribute candy to the children of Aguilar for the yearly Christmas Candy Drive that he organized for many years.
Tom liked the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and arrowhead hunting. Tom was a Pittsburg Steelers and Atlanta Braves fan.
His family was his first priority. He always took his family for summer vacation in Glenwood Springs, a yearly event they all looked forward to. He also loved to entertain his family on the Fourth of July.
He was a man of faith and conviction and will be missed by all who were fortunate to have had them in their lives.
Preceding him in death are parents Tomasina and Joe Monarco Sr., his beloved wife Dollie Monarco, infant brother Pascale, brothers Carmen, Adolph Sr., Charlie and Joe Monarco Jr., sisters Mary Jones,  Angie Laner and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
Survivors are sons Tom (Jennifer) Monarco, Colorado Springs, Michael (Cora) Monarco, Cortez, CO, grandchildren Jessica (William) Zimmerman, Dominic (Melanie) Monarco, Tyler (Ashlee) Monarco , great grandchildren, Lucas, William, Logan, Evan,and  Ethan, sister Lucy Antista, sister-in-law Mary Rose Monarco, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 with Rosary at 9:30AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Aguilar, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10AM.
Inurnment will follow a Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Honorary escorts are Marty Dosen, Mark Piano, Joe Arnone, Adolph Monarco Jr., Dan Martinez, Gary Salapich, Jim Federico, Gerald Baudino, Ken Alfonso, Frank Coppa and Larry Vezzani.
