Two young children drown in Weston pond

WJ  250x55WESTON — On December 4 at approximately 3:30 pm, the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Department Office received a call from the Trinidad Communications Center of reports that two children had fallen through ice on a pond that was located on the Robinson Sawmill property off of County Road 31.9 in Weston, Colorado.
Deputies responded to the location and arrived at 3:48 pm.  Upon arrival, Deputies assisted the Trinidad Ambulance District personnel who had arrived prior and had removed the two young boys, approximate ages of six and nine, from the water and were performing rescue efforts on both.  The children were then transported from the scene to Mt. San Rafael; both children were pronounced dead later in that evening.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office.
