WALSENBURG — Walsenburg police continue the investigation into the early morning shooting on west Seventh Street that sent a 35-year old local man to a Denver area hospital.
Police were called to 808 W. Seventh shortly after 2:30 am Tuesday, Nov., 10 and found Daniel Montez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via flight for life and underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon.
WPD Chief Tommie McLallen said officers had interviewed about 20 individuals in their search for clues in the case. McLallen said Tuesday afternoon, “We’re following all the leads we have, but have no concrete evidence yet.” Police said initially they may be looking for more than one person in connection with the case, although no firm description of any suspects has been released.
On Wednesday Chief McLallen said, “We’re actively following up on a couple of potential leads.” Investigators, whose day began hours earlier than usual on Tuesday, were still working the case at midnight.
WPD Sgt. John Salazar II and Captain Vince Suarez traveled to the Denver hospital on Wednesday to interview Montez and hopefully learn more about the suspect or suspects and to find out what led to the brazen assault.
Police urge anyone with information to call 719-738-1044, Huerfano County Emergency Dispatch. Callers may remain anonymous.
