Martha J. Lopez of Maxwell, NM passed away on Saturday November 7, 2015 at home at the age of 77. She was born March 31, 1938 in Raton to the late Donicio and Olympia (Martinez) Gonzales.
Martha greatly enjoyed making blankets, sewing, embroidery and baking for neighbors and friends. She also cherished her 9 years of being a foster grandparent at Maxwell Elementary. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Eddie Lopez along with their 5 daughters and 2 sons: Terry Cruz and husband Leroy of Shallowater, TX, Isabell Lopez of Dalhart, TX, Eddie A. Lopez of Sunray, TX, Cindy Espinoza of Bernalillo, Guy Lopez and wife Clare of Angel Fire, NM, Christy Kear of Springer, NM, Gloria Lopez of Maxwell, NM and brother Dick Gonzales.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Maria Cruz of Shallowater, TX, Ryan Cruz and wife Tara of Trussville, AL, Arthur Cruz, Michael Cruz, and Joseph Cruz of Dalhart, TX, Amanda Lopez, Casey Espinoza and Vincent Espinoza of Rio Rancho, Loretta Lopez of Angle Fire, NM and Bryce Kear of Colorado Springs, CO as well as 17 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, 13 sisters and 4 brothers.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home Chapel in Raton, NM. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary is will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday November 12, 2015 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Maxwell with a Celebration of Life Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend George Poonley as the celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow at the Maxwell Cemetery. Funeral arrangements for Martha J. Lopez are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.
