Springer homecoming short, but long on heart

WJ 250x55SPRINGER, NM — This past week, the Red Devils of Springer were shut out in their homecoming game against New Mexico’s defending state champions, the  Melrose Rams.  The Rams scored in the first 8 seconds and didn’t stop rolling down the field, amassing 50 points in the first half.  The Red Devils made some great offensive plays, but could not capitalize.
With New Mexico’s 50 point mercy rule, play was  suspended, putting a damper on the homecoming halftime festivities.  This was the Red Devils’ first shutout.  Springer will meet Montclair on Friday, October 23.
After the game, juniors Zac Caldwell and Michelle Finkbone were crowned King and Queen.  Shane Ruebush and Audrey Ritchie were named prince and princess of junior high.
