The Lady Tigers hosted Clayton for their second district meeting of the season on Saturday, October 24th and the girls earned revenge by winning in four games after Clayton toppled Raton earlier this season in three games.
The Lady Tigers honored Mimi Moore, Carol Unger, Adrianne Coleman and Lisa Theis by making them honorary Lady Tigers for being cancer survivors during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Both the football team and volleyball teams sported pink this weekend to honor those survivors and in memory of those who lost that battle.
Coach Tina Dorrance noted that the girls have had problems this season coming back when they lose game one, but the ladies overcame the odds Saturday and put one in the win column as they took Clayton in four. As noted, game one was the loss for Raton as Clayton started the scoring, but Raton kept it close and tied the game at 11. Clayton however kept the play going and forced Raton to make mistakes that allowed Clayton to go on for a 25-17 win.
In game two the Lady Tigers came out and kept it close after Clayton once again started the scoring. Raton tied the game several times as they kept the volleys going and made the plays over the net. Alina Pillmore and Autumn Archuleta played strong at the net making several blocks but Clayton made the hits go long keeping the girls in the back busy. After a tie late in the game Raton pulled it out 25-21.
In game three the Lady Tigers came out with a renewed sense of “we want this one” as they scored first and kept it up for a 25-15 win. Raton again took the lead even though Clayton kept the volleys going and keeping it close. Once again the ladies in the back had to keep up as the hits went long and fast. Raton however made the plays that kept them ahead as they put the ball in the holes that Clayton had in their defense. When the final hit found the floor Raton had won the game with a 25-19 score.
