Carolyn Ann Jones, age 80, of Sandia Park, NM, formerly of Raton, passed away Tuesday October 13, 2015 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born November 28, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Douglas George and Eleanor Fahay-Colbert.
She moved to Raton in 1949 after attending St. Vincent’s Academy in Albuquerque, NM.
After graduating from Raton High School in 1953, Carolyn attended business school in Amarillo, TX. She married the love of her life, Marty, in Raton on February 27, 1954. She was an active volunteer for the Red Cross for many years. Carolyn was also a water safety instructor in Raton, where she enjoyed teaching disabled children to swim. She worked the odds board at the La Mesa Racetrack among many other jobs in Raton, before becoming a real estate agent/broker for many years in the area. Carolyn owned and operated her own business C. Jones Realty for many years in Raton before selling it in 2000. She also owned and operated the Jones Drug Store in downtown Raton with her husband Marty from 1968 until 1995. In 2001 Carolyn and Marty moved to Sandia Park, NM to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Both Carolyn and her husband were avid supporters of Raton. She was a strong-willed, independent woman who always put her family first, but she also loved to laugh and have a good time. She enjoyed skiing, playing tennis, rollerskating, dancing, and camping.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marty, brother Doug, and sister Sue. She is survived by her daughter Marti Ann Peters and husband Scott of Sandia Park, NM, her son Scott Jones of Las Cruces, NM, and three grandchildren Heather, Jason, and Kristi, one great grandson Brandon, and cousins Mary Francis, Danny, Edwin, and Ruthie.
Visitation will be Friday October 23, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday October 24, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Buerkle officiating, burial will be in the MT. Calvary Cemetery in Raton.
Arrangements and celebration of love for Carolyn Ann Jones are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
